A Christmas Eve Rescue

Silent Night is a beautiful song. But the phrase “all is calm” didn’t likely describe that first Christmas night. Nor does it reflect the state of most hearts or homes as we head into Christmas morning.

It’s easy to get overwhelmed with the constant holiday demands on our time, attention, and money—even on Christmas Eve.

So try this simple practice. Invite God into this moment. Name what’s stealing your peace and joy. And release it all to him. This refocuses you on what matters. It takes the pressure off yourself and those you love to come through or be amazing. Perfection isn’t an option. So embrace the messy imperfection of this moment.

Getting it all done isn't a realistic option. But being fully present when it counts is possible. Especially in this season, the art of soul care requires us to say "no" to life’s constant distractions in order to say "yes" to the people and projects that matter most.

Doing so will replace our hurried chaos with a holy calm this Christmas Eve.
