Don’t Worry About Missing Out
Do you primarily see your life through a lens of scarcity or abundance? Whether you focus on lack or provision, it will feel true.
When we focus on lack, the feeling of scarcity seeps into everything. From relationships to hours in the day to money in our bank account, It feels like there’s never enough to go around. The more we obsess over it, the emptier we become.
To counter this, I began keeping a journal where I would jot down daily encounters with abundance. Like when the person in front of me at the drive-through paid for my order. Or when I receive an unexpected financial gift supporting the creation of these daily readings. Over time, I became expectant for how God would provide—regardless of the need. Whenever the lie of scarcity tried to rear its ugly head, I’d return to my journal and see page after page of God’s unexpected abundance.
It’s a good lesson that lack never gets the last word for sons and daughters of God.
If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met. (Mark 6:30-33 MSG)
