The Goal of De-Creation

Just as God is an intentional Creator, the enemy is an intentional de-creator who comes at our creativity in a uniquely destructive way.
It’s important to remember that Lucifer is a created being. When he tried to elevate himself above his Creator, he didn’t just revolt against God but against the created reality and order. Perhaps that’s why creation is still groaning (Romans 8:19-22 NLT). I believe that as a consequence of his rebellion against God, he forever lost his ability to create. How could anyone’s creativity not suffer a catastrophic loss when it comes totally untethered from the Creator? Now the enemy is an agent of de-creation.
The best he can do is move against what is created with God. Through de-creation, he tries to counter what is true and good. He tries to dis-integrate what is integrated and desecrate and de-create God’s creation.
I experience this firsthand when I sit down to write. Rather than sense God’s presence, it feels like my creativity is freefalling into a huge hole. When your creativity feels opposed, it’s helpful to remember that the enemy has opposed the Creator and creation since time began. The enemy hates anything that reminds him of the Creator...including you and your ability to co-create with God. It’s the tension that’s been at play since the fall of Eden. Creativity stirs within us, and it’s immediately opposed.
The enemy would love to de-create you and your creativity. He does this by trying to disrupt your intimacy with the Creator. That’s what he’s really after. Protect your intimacy with God by loving him in whatever chaos you face. The enemy’s de-creation efforts can’t hold a candle to greater creation glory.
When we align with the Creator and resist the de-creator, the enemy must flee.
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (James 4:7 NIV)
