Growing Bitter or Better?
When you’ve given it your best and it still isn’t enough, what then?
When nothing is coming together, the temptation is to get frustrated and give up. We wonder why God didn’t come through or let us down. When we believe those lies, we grow bitter. And bitter creatives can’t create works of beauty, grace, or hope.
But there is another option. We can grow better.
Rather than letting our dreams die or growing distant from God, we can take our disappointment, tears, and questions to God. Instead of pushing away from God in our moment of pain, we can draw even closer to him. Seek his interpretation of the situation. Ask what he thinks of your creativity. Remember he loves you infinitely more than your creations.
Doing so has several benefits: 1) it doesn’t give the enemy a foothold, 2) it reminds us that God gave us our creativity, and 3) that he wants us to pursue the process with him—the good and the hard.
This breaks the false narrative of failure or fault as it takes you from bitter to better.
