Hoping for Better Times
Don't place your hopes for better times on changing seasons, political promises, or the ways of this world.
Jesus was clear that in this world, we will have sorrows, trials, and heartache. And interestingly, he told us this so we would have hope and peace. Not because of the world. But because of him.
“I have told you all this so that you will have peace of heart and mind. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows; but cheer up, for I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33 NIV)
Notice that he's not saying just hope for the best. That would be like a ship captain saying “In this sea are icebergs but try not to worry.” Not super helpful. What Jesus says is radically different. Like a ship captain saying, “Don't worry. I’ve already overcome the entire sea.”
That’s the only way to keep hope when things feel hopeless. Rather than give into that sinking feeling, keep your eyes on the One who overcomes the overwhelming.
