Memory-Fueled Creativity
God gave us a memory and an imagination. When they work together according to his design, we can see our story more clearly. When they don’t, we find ourselves stuck in the wrong story.
It’s essential to remember that our memory isn’t neutral. It wants to make sense of our story. To help, our imagination tries to fill in the blanks for the events we can’t remember or don’t understand. We re-play scenes in our mind trying to determine why things happened and what that means about us.
The problem is when we rely on our own limited understanding, we get (at best) partial insights. The process is often so painful, we end up just wanting to bury and forget it all.
What we miss is God’s interpretation of our story. He’s the only one who knows the full panorama of what happened…and why. Only he clearly sees the enemy’s ongoing plot to kill, steal, and destroy us (John 10:10). Only Jesus can heal our broken hearts and set us free (Isaiah 61:1). And only God knows his plans for our future: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11 NIV)
That’s the invitation. To combine a God-healed memory of our past with a God-fueled imagination of the future.
