Pursue the Better
-An exclusive excerpt from Allen’s new book-
At this point, you might feel the pull to just stick with the way things are. If you do, you’ll stay stuck. So please resist that urge and remain on this journey.
Deep down, you know there’s more. You sense things aren’t quite right. You’re often exhausted. Not fully seen or known. You know you have more to offer. Whatever’s in the way, you’ve learned to work around it. Downgrade expectations. So why complain? Better to get busy and push through. Ignore the check engine light. Just drive faster.
But why keep pretending?
The question isn’t if we can get used to a creative process that exhausts us. Or even if we can make a broken system work for us. Without question, we can. But why would we want to when so much more is available?
It feels vulnerable to admit something’s off with our creativity. The realization can lead to defensiveness or shame. But that’s missing the point. This is about breakthrough, not blame. Once we accept that something is off, we can address it rather than excuse or accommodate it.
The Creativity Glitch has been present for so long that we’ve begun to assume it’s who we are and how we create. That’s a lie.
So let’s quit saying it’s all good. Because it isn’t.
Instead, let’s admit it can be better. More importantly, we can be better.
Let’s pursue that.
