Running on Fumes

When you create, you willingly pour yourself out in sacrificial ways. That’s beautiful. But you don’t want to stay empty. There’s no correlation between good art and burnt-out artists.

So the question is how do you intentionally fill yourself back up? C. S. Lewis says, “The soul is but a hollow which God fills.” If we don’t allow God to fill our soul, something else will. The world offers endless options of relief or distraction but never restoration.

God offers a better option: You’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. (Philippians 4:8 MSG)

So fill your art with light, hope, and life. But the creative process doesn’t start or end there. It’s fueled by what you fill yourself with. Choose well so you don’t find yourself running on fumes.
