The Distance Between You & God
People often talk about God as if he’s way up there, somewhere in the clouds, and we’re way down here, left to our own means.
But God is not a distant Father. Nor a distant Creator. He doesn’t just show up in cathedrals or on Sunday morning. He is always present. And closer than our skin.
Here’s a simple exercise to help reframe the distance between you and God. Take a piece of paper and draw a horizontal line right through the middle of it. In the top half, write the word “God.” In the bottom half, write your first name. Look at the space that separates you and God. That’s the primary way most see their relationship with God.
Now fold the top half of the sheet downward. Notice how there’s no longer any separation between your name and God’s name. They are touching. Together. This simple visual reflects the most beautiful reality of all—our shared union.
God isn’t out there. He is with us. In everything we do. Including the project you’re working on right now.
On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. (John 14:20 NIV)
