What Dazzles You?

One of the best ways to grow your creativity is to stay curious. This allows you to see the world around you—and within you—with fresh wonder. It is the time to allow your heart to be drawn to what makes it beat faster. But it is essential we don’t become more enamored with the created than our Creator.
David penned Psalm 63 while he was in the wilderness of Judah. It was a harsh place where all the usual pleasures and distractions of life were stripped away. It is from this setting that David declares his greatest passion.
You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water. (v 1 NIV)
What does David crave more than life? God’s love (v 3). What satisfies him more than the richest feast? It isn’t popularity, wealth, or control. Only God fills his soul (v 5). What does David lie awake thinking about and meditating on throughout the night? It isn’t the news, fears, or doom scrolling. God alone consumes his imagination (v 6).
As you grow curious about what stirs your heart, be sure God is at the top of your list.
We must always be more fascinated by the Creator than whatever we are creating. I love how Victor Hugo describes the bishop in his masterpiece Les Misérables: “He did not study God; he was dazzled by him.”
When was the last time you were dazzled by God? Or asked him questions...about him? The process starts, like any relationship, by spending more time together.
You will search for me. And when you search for me with all your heart, you will find me! (Jeremiah 29:13 NCV)
As you spend time in the Curious stage, don’t miss the main thing—being more curious about God than you are about what you make or create.
