What’s Your Kryptonite?

Superman was my favorite boyhood superhero. He still is.
The Man of Steel is invincible to everything except for one thing. His weakness is a glowing green substance known as Kryptonite. When exposed to it, the toxic radiation immediately drains his immense powers and then his life. While it’s deadly to Superman, it has no effect on anyone else.
The reason isn’t random. His home planet was Krypton. As a baby, he was sent in a rocket to earth moments before the planet exploded. Kryptonite is the name of the toxic green rock fragments from his obliterated home. In an ironically poetic way, the only thing that weakens him is fractured pieces from his past.
The same is true for us. The fractures we experience as we pursue what we love aren’t random. The source ties back to our past as well. That is almost always the origin point for one of our main Creativity Glitches. A memory, situation, or scar from childhood or as a young adult that still has the power to take us out. It may not radiate a green glow, but it drains our confidence. It’s worth noting that confidence and competence are two different animals. Confidence without competence is foolish. Competence without confidence is common. The enemy regularly tries to make us feel incompetent.
The word Kryptonite has now come to mean an extraordinary exploitable weakness, or vulnerability, much like the phrase “Achilles’ heel.” But we don’t have to fall victim to it once we understand we have our own personal Kryptonite—situations, words, or thoughts that seem custom made to take us out. Even if your growing-up years were good, the origin often begins in our early years. Start there and see what God reveals.
Kryptonite is a Glitch Maker. Here’s your Glitch Breaker.
Consider your greatest fears as a young person, the lack of validation, or betrayal from one you trusted. How do those same things tend to take you out today in ways that make you feel powerless…or stuck? The goal is not just to know it but to break free from it. Ask God to heal you from these past traumas. Because like it or not, we all have home issues. Doing so might not make your ideas invincible…but it will help your creativity fly higher!
