When You’re Out of Options

In a stressful situation, we often assume the only possible outcomes are the ones we can see. Don’t give into the pressure to make a quick decision between options A and B. Instead, try this:

  • Step away for a few minutes (more if you can) from the distractions and pressure.

  • Take a few deep breaths.

  • Share your concerns with God.

  • Ask for his interpretation, his council, his options. And follow as he leads.

This isn’t wishful thinking. It’s resting in the assurance that God is working all things for our good. As Paul says, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28 NIV)

God is never limited to options A and B. He has infinite possibilities to help us, save us, and restore us. His ways are never predictable and always better than our plans. Your current situation didn’t catch God by surprise. He is with you. And he will protect you through the storm.

So don’t worry, because I am with you. Don’t be afraid, because I am your God. I will make you strong and will help you; I will support you with my right hand that saves you. (Isaiah 41:10 NCV)
