Ask God For This

God is infinitely creative. That shouldn’t come as a surprise. The first way he reveals himself in the first sentence of the first book of the Bible is as Creator. So is it any wonder that God chooses to speak to us in the most creative ways imaginable? Certainly through Scripture. That’s our foundation. But that’s not the only way he communicates.

Scripture is filled with examples of God personally speaking with his sons and daughters. In Exodus 33:11, we’re told: The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend (NIV). The rest of that chapter features a robust conversation between the two of them.

God regularly reminds me that he’s making all things new through the number 11. I see it on license plates, on ticket stubs, addresses, and even today’s date (11.11). But mostly, I pause at 11:11 each morning and evening to thank God for making all things new in my heart, my family, my creativity, and this broken world.

If you’ve never experienced this kind of interaction with God before, ask him this question: What’s a unique way you’d like to remind me of your presence, stir my heart, or capture my imagination? It could be hummingbirds, flowers, sunrises, a phrase, a song, or even a color. God has limitless ways to speak to our hearts.

So what’s your 11:11?
