Back on Track

-An exclusive excerpt from Allen’s new book-

The first part of our journey has set the stage for what’s to come.

We’ve looked at what is compromising our creativity and identified the problem. The term Creativity Glitch will prove immensely helpful because it focuses our attention on the real issue. We haven’t lost our creativity. We don’t lack creativity. We have a glitch that is coming against our creativity.

But naming the problem isn’t enough. Our ultimate goal isn’t simply awareness or finding a way to cope or work around our sticking points. It is to eradicate the glitch so we can finally be free of it.

Remember the patient at the doctor’s office? While we don’t have a biometric watch to analyze our Creativity Glitches, we do have a way to illuminate them.

Our stuck places.

They serve as the “check engine light” for what’s going on within us. They provide a series of codes or clues that reveal our unique sticking points and vulnerabilities. Not so we can ignore them, but to alert us to an issue that needs attention.

The enemy is a glitch maker. But God is the glitch breaker. We’re told to submit ourselves to God, resist the enemy, and he will flee (James 4:7). Think of it as a form of resistance creativity—that draws us closer to God while repelling the enemy further from us!

What would it mean for our creativity to be fully restored? To recover all that was lost in Eden? To wield our gifting in wholeness and freedom? To be fully who we were created to be and then create with God from that space? That’s what we’re after.

We were originally created to be glitch-free. We can be so again. Now that we know what we’re up against, it’s time we learn how to actively resist the glitch.
