Then Life Happens

-An exclusive excerpt from Allen’s new book-

I’m always surprised when my plans don’t go as planned.

It’s on the verge of working out...but then life happens.

In those moments, it’s easy to lose heart or want to give up. I wonder why God didn’t come through for me and help me in my goals. Instead, I feel stuck. Again.

God has been working with me in this area. The places I get stuck are often the result of me running into sticky situations in my own strength. I make my plans and assume God will automatically go along with them. Perhaps even bless them. Or at least immediately rescue me so I can keep running toward my goals. But it doesn’t work that way.

Mortals make elaborate plans, but God has the last word. Humans are satisfied with whatever looks good; God probes for what is good. Put God in charge of your work, then what you’ve planned will take place. (Proverbs 16:1-3 MSG)

I’m learning to follow God rather than following my instincts, desires, wants, and ego.

When we put him in charge, what’s been planned will happen.

Being stuck isn’t fun. Nor is it God’s desire for his sons and daughters. A major aspect of overcoming the Creativity Glitch is gaining an understanding of what leads to our unique sticking places, how to break free from them, and (even better) avoid them in the first place.

Life happens. That’s a given. But stuck places don’t have to happen. That’s a choice.

Let’s get unstuck so we can be free to pursue all that awaits.
