Begin with a Blank Page

A to-do list is a great way to remember and prioritize all that must be done today. But it’s a terrible way to measure the success of a day.

Yes, there is so much that needs to be done. But the to-do list has limitations. Rarely does it leave space for God to show up or provide a rhythm that’s kind to your heart.

I’d like to offer a different approach. One that won’t leave you exhausted at the end of the day.

Take a deep breath and set your to-do list aside.

Now, take a blank sheet of paper and ask God what he has for you today. After all, he already knows. Give him permission to set the rhythm that’s best for you. He may invite you to focus on a person rather than a project. Or prioritize heart work over homework. He may nudge you to clear the schedule to focus on one big issue. Or show you how to get twice as much done in half the time.

The goal is to be more fully present to God’s presence. Then arrange your day around his priorities.
