Can Art Be Neutral?
All of life is spiritual.
Everything we do is either with God or without God—whether financial decisions, entertainment choices, or what we turn to for relief when we’re weary. There really is no third option.
Which means there’s no such thing as a neutral life or neutral art. As C. S. Lewis says: "There is no neutral ground in the universe. Every square inch, every split second is claimed by God, and counterclaimed by Satan."
This has huge ramifications for our creativity. We will either create with God or on our own. Only what is created in union with God will have an eternal spark. Everything else, no matter how popular in the moment, will ultimately fade and be forgotten.
Art really isn’t in the eye of the beholder. It either aligns with the Creator’s view of reality…or goes against it. Because all of life is spiritual.
