The Doctor Will See You
-An exclusive excerpt from Allen’s new book-
“Level with me, Doctor. Am I okay?”
“Thankfully, we don’t have to guess. Over the past month, your biometric watch has been constantly monitoring your heart, sight, brain, and voice for any…irregularities.”
“I have to say, this whole thing seems a bit extreme. I admit something is off. I’m more distracted. Less passionate. And I get stuck a lot. But doesn’t everyone?”
“Many do. But trust me, you don’t have to live with these symptoms.”
“I do trust you. But your bright blue lab coat isn’t making that easy.”
“Yes, well, blue is my favorite color. Besides, I’m not a traditional doctor. They wouldn’t be able to help you with this anyway. This isn’t a medical issue you’re struggling with.”
“Then what is it?”
“The data is clear. You’ve been losing heart. You’re not seeing clearly. Your thinking is compromised. And your voice is weakening. Things are giving out. Flatlining. You’re experiencing…an art attack.”
“Are you certain? I mean, maybe the biometric watch is glitching.”
“The readings aren’t glitching. You are. It happens whenever you try to create. Don’t worry. It’s not fatal. But the outcome varies by patient. It really comes down to how badly you want to get better.”
“So what do I have?”
“The Creativity Glitch.”
