Don’t Lose the Relationship
At its core, life is about relationships. With God and with others.
When Jesus was asked what the two most important things in life were, he didn’t say it was to be respected and proven right in any disagreement. He responded, “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.” (Matthew 22:37 – 40 NLT)
Living this out isn’t easy—especially if you’re the parent of a teenager or young adult who doesn’t agree with you on, well, much of anything. That’s the topic of this Wild at Heart podcast. In it, John Eldredge and I discuss how to not lose the relationship during turbulent times and difficult conversations.
A beautiful postscript to what you’ll hear in the podcast: It’s been almost three years since this episode aired and my son and I are closer than we’ve ever been. The hard times didn’t last. The relationship did.
