Fragments & Flashes

When the Creator of stars, stallions, and sunsets offers to reveal marvelous, great, unsearchable, and remarkable things to us (see Jeremiah 33:3), this generosity should set our hearts racing. Our human limits no longer matter. The previously impossible is more than possible with God.

As we pursue life with God, he will reveal things that have been hidden since creation—waiting for us to discover when we can be entrusted with them.
I will bring out into the open things hidden since the world’s first day. (Matthew 13:35 MSG)
Does that comment make you curious? Jesus was answering the question of why he told parables. These supposedly simple stories revealed aspects of God’s goodness, power, and love that were hidden since the time of Eden. Makoto Fujimura says, “Even in Eden, the gold was hidden. We have work to do.” I love that! What will your work bring out into the open that’s been hidden since the world’s first days? The only way to know is to pursue it with God…and stay curious!
N. T. Wright says, in his foreword to Makoto Fujimura’s book Art and Faith, “If we believe that God raised Jesus from the dead, and that (as the New Testament insists) this has brought about the unexpected launch of new creation, of the ‘Kingdom of God,’ on earth as in heaven, then our present vocations really do partake of that new creation, bringing fragments and flashes of new creation to birth in the midst of the still-darkened and sorrowful world.”
Don’t rush through this first stage. It’s better to take your time on the front end than to be in a future stage and doubt your decision or begin to lose interest. That said, some people spend years here because it’s easier to be curious about everything than it is to create anything.
