Haven’t Seen Anything Yet
I take my two dogs on a mile-long walk almost every day. They’re big dogs—around ninety pounds each. So our treks are always filled with joy and adventure.
After returning from a recent outing, I noticed one dog’s collar was missing a small piece that kept it secure. It wasn’t the end of the world, but it was a bummer. I’d have to buy another collar. Plus, I wanted to find it. I sighed as the image of a needle in a haystack came to mind.
At that moment of despair, I sensed God’s assurance that he’d show me where it was. My heaviness lifted, replaced by an expectancy for tomorrow’s walk. The next day, I felt doubt try to return. So I countered it by saying aloud: “God, I trust you to reveal the missing piece in whatever way you choose.” During that morning’s trek, I actively resisted the pull to “assist” God in finding it. Instead, I practiced simply resting in his promise.
In the final stretch of the walk, we came to a vast area of multi-colored rocks. I glanced down to secure my footing…and that’s when God drew my eye to something nestled deep down between several rocks of similar color. As I knelt to pick the dime-sized collar attachment from the rocks, I sensed God smile. I laughed in awe and heard him say, within my spirit, “You haven’t seen anything yet!”
I’m painfully aware God’s answers don’t always come that fast. Our cry in those times can be, “God, I haven’t seen anything yet!” But I encourage you to reframe that saying so you hear God saying, “Just wait a bit longer. Because no matter what’s come before, you haven’t seen anything yet!”
Consider the parables of the lost sheep, the lost coin, and especially the lost son (Luke 15). Don’t put limits on what he will restore or recover in your Story. With God, all things are possible (Matthew 19:26).
