House of Mirrors

As we pursue our groove, we must be careful not to find ourselves in a house of mirrors.
You’re probably seen this attraction at local fairs or festivals. The goal is to find your way through a maze of mirrors. But as you try to navigate it, your reflection is everywhere because at every turn are walls of mirrors and only one open space. It’s disorienting and claustrophobic.
It's hard to create in a house of mirrors. When all we can see are images of ourselves, it can feel like the creative process is all about us...or all up to us. We forget to ask what God is up to or imagine how our creations could benefit others.
A better approach is to view our creativity as a looking glass. This gives us a new lens to see what’s really going on—while taking the focus off of us. We do this by going through the mirror rather than staring at it.
Through the Looking Glass is the title of the second Alice in Wonderland book. She steps through the mirror, making it a portal rather than a portrait of her reflection. The goal is to go from wandering in circles to a land of wonder where we can see what’s not just behind the mirrors, but behind our motives.
To get there, we must risk that first step with God into the unknown. Doing so takes us beyond what we can see and beyond what we think is possible.

Enjoy the view as God shows you what you could never have known on your own...but don’t stop there. Let your creativity be a looking glass by which others can catch a glimpse of God and things to come.
