Six Stages of Creativity
-An exclusive excerpt from Allen’s new book-
We’ll now explore the Six Stages of Creativity.
While each project is unique, the creative journey involves specific stages. When we feel stuck or lost, it is because we didn’t realize there was an order to the process. We were doing our best but ended up wandering back and forth between the stages or getting permanently stuck in one stage. That leads to breakdown.
Knowing the stage you’re in will eliminate a lot of busy work that clamors for your immediate attention. This will channel your energy in the right direction rather than every direction and free you from spinning your wheels, chasing shiny distractions, and starting many–without finishing any—projects.
Breakthrough occurs as we learn how to pursue the unique aspects of each stage with clarity, purpose, and passion.
The Six Stages of Creativity are…
1. Curious
2. Converge
3. Commit
4. Create
5. Connect
6. Release
If you’ve ever felt lost in the creative process, you’ll find these categories extremely helpful. Many have asked if they can be in multiple stages at once. Not for the same project. Doing so derails a project. But for different projects, absolutely. You can be at the Curious stage for a new hobby, the Create stage of organizing your closet, and the Release stage of a novel you just published.
For each stage, we’ll spend time exploring what to expect and how to flourish.
Are you curious for how this works? Good. Let’s start there!
