Keep Moving Forward
It’s easy to be hard on yourself when you miss the mark. But I’ve discovered a more helpful way to interpret these experiences.
It’s to view each action as one step along the way. Since every journey involves thousands of steps, it takes the pressure off each one being perfect. If you’re walking from the store to your car and you trip over a curb, you don’t berate yourself, give up, and forget ever getting to your car. You dust yourself off and keep moving forward. Because the goal isn’t perfection, it’s getting to your vehicle.
It’s the same in the situation you’re now facing. You will hit turbulence. You will blow a conversation. You will fall short of expectations. And…you can continue to learn and move forward a step at a time.
As John Maxwell says, "Sometimes you win, sometimes you learn." Either way, keep moving forward.
