Made for Another World
Why is it so hard to feel at home in this world?
Maybe it’s because our desire for a place where we can be fully seen, known, and loved is simply beyond what this world can provide.
As C. S. Lewis noted: "If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world."
The author of Hebrews spoke this truth long before Lewis, reminding us: For this world is not our permanent home; we are looking forward to a home yet to come. (Hebrews 13:14 NLT)
A home not of this world. A home yet to come. Which means our problem isn’t that our longings or expectations are too big. The world is just too small to satisfy them. Ultimately, our true home isn’t a place or a building. It is God. He is our home. As Scripture reminds us: Lord, through all the generations you have been our home! (Psalm 90:1 TLB)
As the author of Hebrews says, we are looking forward to this home. That doesn’t just convey expectancy, but also direction. We can only find our true home by looking forward rather than backward. Toward a future beyond our wildest imagination.
Given this universal longing, how might your creativity better reflect this homeward journey?
