Practice This for More Peace

If you want more peace in your day, try this simple practice.

When it comes to your plans today, release all expectations for how things are supposed to go while being expectant for what God is up to.

Expectations reflect what we want to happen. We assume we know best. So we keep our eyes on our schedule and push hard to make it happen.

Expectancy reflects a sense of wonder and curiosity for God’s plan. We assume he knows best. So we keep our eyes on him and go as he leads.

Expectations or Expectancy. There really is no third way. We will either view today’s unexpected situations—from car repairs to relational curve balls—through eyes of expectancy or expectation.

Choosing to stay expectant for what God is up to—even in the chaos— is a simple practice that helps us exchange the heaviness of worry for the way of peace.
