Stop Dreaming. Start Living.
One of my favorite movies is The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. It’s the story of a man who lives more in his head than reality. He works at Life magazine but has no life. He finds himself caught up in an adventure that requires more of him than he believes possible. It takes a long-forgotten adventure journal with his father’s hand-written words to open his eyes…and his heart. The inscription reminds him that adventures aren’t meant to be feared but enjoyed. It read, “Have Fun, Dad.”
The movie poster tagline perfectly captures the theme: Stop Dreaming. Start Living. It’s good advice.
Your assignment, should you choose to accept it, is to watch (or re-watch) The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Savor the story, the cinematography, the music. But don’t stop there. Notice the scenes that cause your heart to beat faster or your eyes to well with tears. And remember that you have a similar adventure journal from your Father.
God sees the blank pages of our Story and all that awaits. And he beckons us forward with the inscription: Let’s have fun. We’ll do this together. Love, Dad.
