Voices of the Unreal & Artificial
I’ve worked with thousands of writers and artists—and it’s not uncommon to hear them reference the voices in their head when describing the creative process.
Sometimes the enemy uses critical voices from our past (or present) to convince us that what we’re doing is a waste of time…or that we have no talent. We need to stop listening to those lies. Then there is our own internal voice. We are often our own worst critic. Negative self-talk isn’t helpful, friend. If you can’t picture Jesus saying those same words to you, don’t say them to yourself.
And we often pursue other voices. Some believe in “the muse” who whispers ideas in their ears or a “force” they can tap into. Neither are helpful…because neither are real.
Then there is AI. If all we care about is speed and volume, AI will produce enough endless data to fill the ocean. But know that as you use it and learn from it, AI is using you and learning from you. If you want your art to be life-giving, stop asking the unreal and artificial for ideas.
Some say God works through any and all means. If so, then choose him before and instead of all other means. He isn’t shy, nor does he rely on made up voices or man-made AI to speak to us. He is the Creator. He created us to co-create with him. He has a voice. He still speaks.
We just need to silence all the other voices in our head so we can focus on the only voice that matters.
