We All Have an Ocean
The act of creating something—whether a loving home environment or a new Broadway musical—always involves our senses.
The act of creation requires us to see, hear, and taste what could be before it actually is. Then, once it’s a reality, it invites others into the experience through their senses.
But along the way, we often forget the need to pour into our own senses by surrounding ourselves with specific sights, sounds, smells, touches, and tastes that calm our hearts.
The ocean has always brought me great joy but I live in the mountains. So I’ve found ways to compensate. I placed a painting of a massive, vibrant blue green wave behind my desk. The sight of it soothes my soul. As I fall asleep, I listen to the sound of rhythmic ocean waves from my sound machine. I surround myself with the color blue, savor the smell of strong coffee, and awaken my taste buds with spicy salsa. I love the smell and sound of thunderstorms and watching the way bolts of lightning illuminate the heavens.
We all have an ocean. What’s yours? It’s not just enough for your creativity to evoke the senses of others. How do you incorporate sensory experiences into your day to awaken your heart?
