Who Says It’s Impossible?

I’ll admit it. I’m a big fan of the original Star Trek television and movie franchise. I’m referring to the ones with Captain Kirk, Spock, and Bones as played by William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, and DeForest Kelly.

My favorite quote occurred when Spock would raise his eyebrow and say, “There are always possibilities.”

It’s a hopeful way to see life. But with all due respect to Spock and the writers of Star Trek, they didn’t originate the thought.

Jesus said it first and better. “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26).

That’s even more hopeful. Because our hope doesn’t rest in ourselves…or humanity. With people, options do run out. Some limits can’t be overcome. Certain things are impossible.

But with God, all things are possible. All. Things.

So when you start to feel something is impossible, ask yourself whose voice you’re listening to. Then take your impossibility to God and stay expectant.
