A Creator’s Worldview

Every person and everything they create—from songs and movies to businesses and apps—has a specific worldview.

By worldview, I simply mean how one sees the world.

When I was a boy, I loved story. But I was unaware of this concept. I viewed entertainment as neutral rather than as a canvas filled with the creator’s specific beliefs about love, hope, life, sex, and meaning.

No creator or creation is neutral. If you want to know the heart of a creator, simply look at what he or she creates.

God also has a particular worldview. He created reality. He sees love, hope, sacrifice, and faith in very specific ways. Unlike humans, the way God sees things isn’t just his opinion. It is reality whether we agree or not.

It’s God’s view of life that we’re after. But that view is rarely valued or reflected in the world today. Pay attention to the themes of the next song you sing or show you watch. Ask yourself what worldview it reflects—and if you’re better or worse off for spending time in it.

Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. (Philippians 4:8 NLT)
