Tools Beat Rules

The right tools always make things easier, whether building a deck or bringing our dreams to life. As any handyman knows, there’s never just one way to fix something or one tool for all needs. 

When we start replacing tools with rules, we limit what’s possible. Manmade rules replace freedom with formula, draining life from us and our creations.

Tools allow flexibility. Rules seek control.

Consider your art. Do you enter into it with wide-eyed wonder, curious where God will lead you? Or as the proven expert who knows every step and is confident it will all come together just fine whether God shows up or not.

Refuse to be a rule-based creator with your one hammer, demanding the process be the same every time. Instead, invite God into the creative process and let go of the way it’s always been done so you can follow him into what’s never been done…knowing he’ll provide the right tools for the job.
