Your Impossible Situation
While writing The Story of With, God revealed a new way to create with him.
For those who aren’t familiar with it, The Story of With is a fantastical allegory—part Alice in Wonderland, part Matrix, part identity tale. As I wrote, I sensed God inviting me to place the protagonist, Mia, in impossible situations. The kind that neither she nor I knew how she’d survive.
At first, that made me nervous. As the author, shouldn’t I have a plan?
Then God asked me how I face the seemingly impossible situations in my life.
I realized I looked to him for next steps.
I sensed God smile. Do the same with your story. Paint Mia into an impossible situation and watch how I rescue her. So I did. I ended most chapters with Mia in some dramatic cliffhanger. She would be neck-deep in quicksand or trapped in an elevator where the floor gives way beneath her feet. I’d write her into what I thought was a corner. Then wait to see how God would get her out of it.
And he always rescued her. Every time. Always in the most creative ways.
It’s a freeing way to write. And an even more freeing way to live.
