The reaction of others doesn’t reflect…

I’ll admit it. The headline was a trick question. I can tell you how to create...but not what to create.

I bring a small journal with me wherever I go. Unlike a phone, it isn’t a distraction device. It is a sign that I expect to hear from God anytime, anywhere.

We’ve all had moments where we run out of patience, ideas, time or money. But more and more, I’m running out of words.

Dear World, 

You’ve done your best these past few years to derail our God-given creativity.

These readings regularly touch on the beauty and power of our God-given creativity. But there’s an aspect of it that deserves more attention—creative exhaustion.

When God gives you a glimpse of the impossible, don’t wait for the world or others to give you the green light.

I’ve worked with thousands of writers and artists—and it’s not uncommon to hear them reference the voices in their head when describing the creative process.

How is your creativity relevant to this particular moment in time?

You have a way of seeing the world unlike anyone else. It reflects the unique gifting, interests, and creativity that God knit into you before you were born. 

If your life were a movie, what would the poster look like for this particular installment?

The phrase “necessary evil” rationalizes the occasional need for horrific compromises in order to achieve a greater good. 

God has a sense of humor far superior to your favorite comedian. That shouldn’t surprise you. God invented laughter. 

It’s almost impossible to get through the day without hearing more devastating developments—whether at home, work, or the evening news. 

The less real something is, the more we tend to be drawn to it.

The ability to say just enough and no more is a learned art—whether in conversation with another, a prayer to God, or in your creative writing.

A pastor recently made the comment that believers have been moved to the fringes of culture. But the reality is—believers aren’t the ones who moved. 

Believers are more hard-pressed than ever. Not over any one issue, but on every front.

The word sea change isn’t just used as a nautical term. It refers to any profound transformation. And this world is going through a particularly seismic upheaval now.

I’m finding less and less in this world that satisfies me. I hope the same is true for you.
